Job Description

Job Title: Mammography Technologist

Location: Houston, TX, 77025

Contract: 3 months, possible extensions

Shift: 8am–5pm, Mon–Fri

Hours per week: 40

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. (25%) Perform diagnostic and screening mammography, DEXA, and related radiology procedures per physician orders and department protocols. Ensure proper positioning, image quality, and patient communication. Maintain repeat rates ≤5% (mammography) and ≤8% (radiography).
  2. (15%) Conduct equipment quality control, routine maintenance, and report malfunctions. Perform mammography QC tests, document results, and take corrective action when needed.
  3. (15%) Use RIS/PACS systems accurately. Document atypical conditions, troubleshoot image transmission issues, and escalate problems when necessary.
  4. (20%) Follow radiation safety and sterile techniques. Apply shielding appropriately and ensure patient safety during procedures.
  5. (10%) Participate in training, maintain licenses/certifications, and complete continuing education requirements.
  6. (15%) Communicate effectively with patients, coworkers, and radiologists. Provide clear instructions, collaborate across departments, and uphold clinic values in all interactions.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • A: High School diploma/GED + approved Radiologic Technology program
  • B: Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology

Experience

  • A: 40 hours ARRT-approved mammography training; 2 years mammography experience or 1 year KSC X-ray/SCNB experience
  • B: Mammography + SCNB experience

Licenses

  • A: ARRT (R)(M), MRT – General Certificate, BCLS certification

Special Skills

  • A: Microsoft applications, mammography QA/accreditation knowledge, PACS/RIS experience

Other

  • A: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • B: Bilingual

Preferred Skills/Attributes

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in 2D/3D mammography, diagnostic views, spot compression, QC testing, MQSA standards, and positioning complex patients.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures high-quality images, reduces callbacks, and follows protocols precisely.
  • Compassion & Empathy: Supports patients through anxiety; trauma-informed care is a plus.
  • Communication: Explains procedures clearly, adapts to patient needs, and builds trust.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with radiologists, nurses, and technologists; communicates patient needs promptly.
