Job Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care by supporting physicians and clinical staff in a fast-paced ambulatory care environment. This role is responsible for performing clinical and administrative duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s practice, ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and compliance with company policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties (Daily Responsibilities)
Perform all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s practice in accordance with state regulations, company policies, and provider direction.
Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments are available and properly sanitized.
Room patients according to established protocols, verify patient identity, and document vital signs and chief complaints accurately.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, providing clear instructions and reassurance.
Administer non-intravenous medications as directed by providers and per policy.
Perform diagnostic and clinical procedures, including:
Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
Venipuncture and capillary blood collection
Non-invasive specimen collection
Wound care, including dressing changes and staple removal from superficial wounds
Obtaining cultures as ordered
Operate diagnostic and clinical equipment (without interpreting results).
Conduct quality control checks on clinical equipment and report any malfunctions per protocol.
Documentation & Administrative Support
Accurately and timely document patient care activities, procedures, and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Ensure documentation meets clinical, legal, and organizational standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
Care Coordination & Team Collaboration
Coordinate patient care activities as directed by physicians and in alignment with company standards and policies.
Assist physicians and providers during examinations and procedures as needed.
Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient care.
Support clinic workflow by managing patient flow and addressing patient needs in a courteous and professional manner.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification OR ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
Medical Assistants hired prior to certification are expected to perform at the same level as a certified Medical Assistant.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic computer literacy with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to accurately follow clinical protocols and provider instructions.
