About the Company

Our manufacturing client in Salt Lake City is looking to hire an experienced Maintenance Controls Technician to support a large, modern manufacturing operation.

About the Role

This role is the technical escalation point for electrical systems, automation, and advanced diagnostics. It is not a mechanical-only maintenance role. You will work alongside an established maintenance team, diagnosing complex system failures, restoring uptime, and helping improve long-term equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled production equipment
  • Go online with PLCs to diagnose faults, monitor logic, and trace I/O
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving:
  • PLC logic, safety circuits, and interlocks
  • Sensors (photo eyes, prox switches, encoders)
  • VFDs, servos, motor starters, and actuators
  • Read and interpret:
  • Electrical schematics
  • Ladder logic
  • HMI alarms and fault messages
  • Troubleshoot cutting, welding, glazing, material handling, and automated assembly equipment
  • Back up PLC and HMI programs and maintain basic documentation
  • Support and mentor maintenance technicians on electrical and controls troubleshooting
  • Work safely in 24VDC–480VAC industrial environments

Qualifications

  • Ability to work onsite Mon-Fri 5:45 AM-2:15 PM
  • Proven hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled industrial equipment

Required Skills

  • Ability to:
  • Go online with a PLC
  • Monitor live logic
  • Trace inputs/outputs from field devices to logic and outputs
  • Strong industrial electrical background (controls-focused)
  • Experience using diagnostic tools (multimeter, laptop, PLC software)
  • Manufacturing environment experience (automation-heavy preferred)

Preferred Skills

  • Preferred Experience
  • Allen-Bradley PLCs, Lenze, Beckoff, Yaskawa drives
  • HMI troubleshooting (PanelView or similar)
  • VFD setup and fault diagnostics
  • Industrial networking basics (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet)
  • Experience with OEM window, extrusion, or high-speed manufacturing equipment
  • Ability and willingness to train and mentor others
