Position Description Summary

Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg’s Division of Theatre & Dance seeks applicants for temporary Dance faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise.


The mission of the Division of Theatre and Dance is to provide a strong undergraduate education in the theory and practice of theatre and dance, to support the University’s general education curriculum, and to enhance the cultural life of the campus community. The division’s goal is to develop students’ working knowledge and application of historical and contemporary theories and practices in performance, design and technology, and dramatic and critical literature. We strive to develop artists who are imaginative critical thinkers and effective communicators producing art that celebrates humanity and challenges complacency.

Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) since 2008.



Duties

Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach introductory and/or upper-level courses in dance. Possible assignments include, but are not limited to, Beginning Jazz/Ballet, Beginning/Intermediate Modern, Intermediate Ballet or Jazz, Advanced Ballet, Jazz, or Modern, or other specialty courses in the area. Candidates should be prepared for the possibility of teaching select classes online and/or in a hybrid manner.


The location for these temporary positions varies with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. At the present time, the Dance program is based solely at the CU-Bloomsburg Campus



Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)

Minimum Requirements

  • Earned BA degree AND 15 semester hours of graduate credit in Dance, or related field(s), from an accredited institution OR equivalent professional experience
  • Academic specialization, prior teaching experience, and/or prior professional experience relevant to course assignment needs of the department at the time of the appointment
  • Specific knowledge of dance as required to effectively teach available course(s)
  • The ability to work collegially within a liberal arts setting



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
  • Earned MA, MFA, or PhD in Dance, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Experience with classroom presentation technology an online student grading database systems
  • Profile as an active collaborator
  • Previous higher education teaching experience

Supplemental Information

Recommendation for hiring is needed for a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.


Completing this search is contingent upon student enrollment and available funding.

Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors.
