Position Overview

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Spanish program for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum in both content and methodology. At the high school level, teachers may also support coursework within the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Spanish curriculum in alignment with established school programs and, where applicable, the IB framework
  • Teach up to five subject-area classes, each meeting daily
  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction grounded in clear learning objectives
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback, including progress reports and report cards
  • Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the Languages Department, including the Department Chair, on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data analysis
  • Maintain effective classroom management using the school’s assertive discipline model
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish (required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make informed decisions
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to plan and deliver instruction that meets diverse student needs
  • Knowledge of subject matter, instructional best practices, and applicable laws and regulations

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Languages Department Chair and is evaluated annually as part of an annual appointment.
